With Northwest Dance Theatre’s mixed-bill production of Peter and the Wolf and Other Works this weekend, NWDT company dancer Isabel Warnock and her fellow dancers are enjoying the reward of many weeks of hard work. For Isabel, a senior who trains at June Taylor’s School of Dance and will graduate early from Tualatin High School later this spring, there is a sense of nostalgia and excitement as the beginning of a new chapter awaits her. Isabel’s devotion to dance and love of performing has made her a source of joy and inspiration for her peers and her audience. We are very proud of her accomplishments both onstage and off, and wish her the very best in her future academic adventures. We invite you to come see Isabel perform with Northwest Dance Theatre this afternoon at 2pm for Peter and the Wolf and Other Works.
1) When did you join NWDT?
I joined NWDT three years ago as a high school freshman.
2) What is your favorite company memory?
My favorite company memory is dancing in the Waltz of the Flowers. It was very important to me to be able to dance this, and I’m glad I was able to do it.
3) What do you love most about performing?
My favorite thing about performing is connecting with the audience. When I’m onstage, I feel there is a transformation in me. No matter what’s going on offstage, performing allows me to be at my best, give the audience my best, and put it all aside.
4) How has NWDT helped your dance training and academic studies?
My work with the company has helped me learn things quicker and understand things more clearly. It has also helped me learn to prioritize and, above all, it has taught me discipline. I have the discipline to go to class everyday and work hard to achieve my goals.
5) What are your plans for the future?
I’m undecided at the moment, but I have some time to continue exploring and make a decision. I’m looking at OSU to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine or Western Oregon for a career in Criminology.
